Francisco-Xavier Lopez-Portillo y Lancaster-Jones trata sobre el Volcán Iztaccíhuatl y la manera en que fue testigo, junto con su vecino el Volcán Popocatépetl, del encuentro que tuvieron en 1519 los emisarios del Emperador Moctezuma II con el entonces Capitan Hernando Cortés; evento sucedido hace cinco siglos en un punto en la ruta del actual Paso de Cortés, ubicado entre los citados volcanes. Hecho recordado con un monumento en cantera y bronce. En esta obra el Iztaccíhuatl, además, va unido a dos referencias de vida: la primera, data del año de 1968, que se presenta a manera de introduccion, ya que prepara lo que nadie pudo imaginar entonces, y es cuando la segunda entra a escena, tiempo despues, en el año 2007. Ambos sucesos de la realidad son puntos en el espacio-tiempo que nos confirman la vigencia de aquellas palabras de Twain: "No sabían que era imposible, así que lo hicieron".
